Model making for the illustrated cover of script reissue for playwright Dennis Potter‘s last play
Cold Lazarus is a science fiction TV series wherein an authors head is kept alive in a cryogenic vessel by a dubious corporation.
I wanted to try and reflect the plot in as concise a way as possible and not make any reference to the production design of the TV programme in any way.
I worked very organically and had no idea where I was going other than I knew that I wanted to do something based on the play and that I really wanted to do some hand-made sculpting.
I started with ideas for unusual looking buildings, inspired by Japanese bio-morphic architecture and a half-remembered/imagined documentary about the TV series that may or may not have talked about organic buildings.
I also wanted to model the head, the notion of putting it in a jar, connected to the building via a cable was a method to join the two aspects of the story.
