The brief is simple, I take a film that I like and I think how I would like to see it re-represented in the classic 4 sheet poster format.
Sometimes the intent is to improve on the original marketing concept, sometimes its simply to express my enthusiasm for the film in question.
Either way, these are self-contained projects that offer me space for graphical experimentation that often finds its way into my commercial work.
One thing that I do like to do that isn’t often seen in the ‘alternative movie poster’ world is to take one or two elements from the original poster artwork and ‘remix’ them into the new layout. I enjoy this element as it allows me to look closely at the graphic design provided by the original designers and understand the decisions that they made before I subvert or discard them.
